How is Surface Dressing Applied
Our Suffolk team ensures that the sub-base is in good condition. If needed, we repair potholes and imperfections to prepare the surface for installation.
Any loose debris is removed from the surface by mechanical sweeper. This ensures that the emulsion we use creates a good bond to the surface.
Using either our combination spray bar or hand lance, we apply a layer of bitumen at the correct level of coverage needed for your surface. This is applied at 80 degrees Celsius so that it remains warm enough for the aggregate.
The aggregate of your choosing is applied to the hot bitumen. This is either applied by hand or chip spreader depending on the size of the area.
We then press the aggregate firmly into the binder which is done using our tandem roller. This creates a strong bond between the bitumen and the aggregate. On some surfaces we may recommend a second layer of tar and chip is added to ensure longevity. Our team can advise you of this when conducting your free site survey.
