How is Surface Dressing Applied?
Before we start on laying the bitumen, we first make sure that the sub-base is in good condition. If needed, we repair all the potholes and imperfections.
On large areas we use a mechanical sweeper to ensure that all loose debris is removed. This makes sure that the emulsion creates a good bond with the surface, resulting in a stronger, more long lasting finish.
We then apply the bitumen binder and the suitable thickness for your project. We apply this using our combination spray bar for large areas, or a hand lance for smaller residential driveways or paths. This is applied to the surface hot at over 80 degrees Celsius.
Your pre-agreed aggregate choice is applied to this surface. The combination will result in a strong bond and a hard surface. Our team either completes this stage by hand or by using our chip spreader, depending on the size of the job.
We roll the surface using a ride on a tandem roller, pressing the aggregate into the binder. This compression of the two surfaces creates a strong bond between the bitumen and the aggregate. We recommend using two coats of bitumen and aggregate on some applications depending on the project, our team will advise you of this when conducting our free site survey.
