How is Surface Dressing Applied?
When installing a base in Cambridgeshire, we first ensure that the sub-base is in good condition. If necessary we prepare it by filling in potholes and repairing imperfections, all of which results in a smooth finish.
To ensure an adhesive surface, we remove any debris such as leaves and dust from the base. For this we tend to use mechanical sweepers, however this may vary depending on the size of your area.
We then apply the bitumen binder to the prepared sub-base. This is applied hot a 80 degrees Celsius, using either a hand lance or spray bar.
The aggregate that was chosen by you is then applied to the hot bitumen. This starts to create a bond.
To strengthen this bond we then press the aggregate into the bitumen using a roller. This pressure ensures that it is compacted and a strong bond is formed. Depending on you project we may recommend applying a second coat of aggregate and bitumen, we will advise you if we think this is necessary to prolong your surface when we conduct our site survey.
