7 Steps of the Block Paving Installations
In order to help you understand the process of installing a block paving driveway we have collated our stages, so you know exactly what to expect.
Free Site Survey – In order to ensure that your new block paving surface is suitable for your area we will conduct a free site survey. Here we will take all the measurements of the area and evaluate drainage options. We will also provide you with the options and block sizes to choose from, and discuss the final look you are after.
Excavation – Before any works start, we check the areas for gas, water, electric and utilities. To ensure all the works that are completed are necessary and correct preparation is carried out, all of the works are completed by us at Driveline Surface Ltd. At this stage we lay our membrane which stops the Type 1 subbase mixing with the underlying ground.
Sub-base – The sub-bases we use are either MOT type 1 hard core or recycled 20mm -0mm recycled crush concrete. The base we use is dependent on the finished surface and drainage requirements for your particular area. Regardless of the base we use, it is always compacted thoroughly to remove the risk of sinkage.
Kerbs & Edging – Edging is not essential but is sometimes required to act as a retainer. Any edging that is installed is laid on a solid concrete base to ensure that there is no movement.
Drainage & Maintenance – At Driveline Ltd we understand that the secret to a perfect driveway is what lies beneath the surface. We always take into consideration drainage and only use stainless steel metal linear drains as they are anti rust and extremely hard wearing. Any current manholes that are located on your property we will replace these with recessed manholes, which will improve the appearance and also provide you with vital access.
Block Laying – We will screen your final base and then arrange the blocks in your chosen pattern and design.
Final Finishing – We compact the blocks and joint them with kiln dried red sand which prevents subsequent movement, keeping your surface stable at all times.
